Napi, known as Old Man, is the culture hero of the Blackfoot tribe. He is often portrayed as a trickater, a troublemaker, and a foolish being. Napi is a well-intentioned demigod responsible for shaping the world of the Blackfoot Indians. He would often teach people important things. In some legends Napi and Kipitaki are portrayed as the first man and woman made by the Creator, similar to Adam and Eve.
One hot summer day, Napi, rested on the rock because the day was warm and he was tired. He spread his robe on the rock, telling the rock to keep the robe in return for letting Napi rest there. Suddenly, the weather changed and Napi became cold. Napi asked the rock to return his robe, but the rock refused. Napi got mad and just took the clothing. As he strolled away, he heard a loud noise and turning, he saw the rock rolling after him. Napi ran for his life. The deer, the bison and the pronghorn were Napi’s friends, and they tried to stop the rock by running in front of it. The rock rolled over them and Napi’s last chance was to call on the bats for help. Bats did better than their hoofed friends, and by diving at the rock, one of hem finally hit the rock and it broke into two pieces. This story explains why the rock is in two pieces and also why bats have squashed-looking faces. The tale provides caution against taking back what you have given away.

Legenda o Šibalovi Napi kmene Blackfoot
Napi, známý jako Starý muž, je kulturním hrdinou kmene Blackfoot (Černonožci). Je často popisován jako šibal, rušitel pořádku a hlupák. Napi je polobůh s dobrými úmysly, který je zodpovědný za stvoření světa indiánů kmene Blackfoot. Často učí lidi důležité věci. V některých legendách Napi a Kipitaki jsou popisováni jako první muž a žena stvoření Bohem, podobně jako Adam a Eva.
Jednoho horkého dne Napi spočinul na kameni, protože bylo horko a byl unaven. Napi rozprostřel své roucho přes kámen a řekl kameni, že si může roucho ponechat výměnou za to, že nechá Napiho na něm odpočinout. Najednou se počasí změnilo a Napimu byla zima. Napi požádal kámen, aby mu roucho vrátil, ale kámen odmítl. Napi se rozlobil a své oblečení si stejně vzal. Jak odcházel uslyšel rámus a když se otočil, tak uviděl jak se na něj kámen valí. Napi běžel co mu síly stačily, aby se zachránil. Srnec, zubr a antilopa vidloroh byli Napiho kamarádi, a tak se snažili kámen zastavit tak, že před ním sami běželi. Kámen se přes ně převalil a Napiho jedinou záchranou bylo přivolat na pomoc netopýry. Netopýři na tom byli lépe než kopytnatí přátelé. Vrhnutím na kámen jeden z nich konečně kámen udeřil a ten se rozlomil na dva kusy.
Tento příběh vysvětluje proč má kámen dvě části a proč mají netopýři placatě vypadající obličej. Příběh je poučením o tom, abychom nebrali zpět již darovanou věc.
